JABIRU TENNIS NEWS
Tennis coaching
Several Jabiru Tennis lovers took advantage of the opportunity to receive some professional coaching from Jamie Stefanato who came out from Darwin on Sunday the 25th of July at the Jabiru Sports and Social Club (JSSC) tennis courts.
Jamie took juniors Hayden, James and Kade – not so Junior Aaron – and definitely not junior Emily, Tess and Steve through their paces. All players were able to improve their games to a level that will make them a force to be reckoned with on the courts from now on. They are now willing to take on all comers so anyone willing to face this impossible task is welcome at the social tennis every Wednesday from 5.30pm.
Hot Shot Tennis at the Jabiru Campus of West Arnhem College
Jamie was joined by Pat Coburn, a very well respected coach from Darwin, to run a Hot Shot tennis program at the Jabiru campus of the West Arnhem College on Monday the 26th. Pat and Jamie were helped by assistant coaches Emily and Steve who run the local junior coaching on Wednesdays. The Hot Shot program is designed to help juniors build their skills so that they can progress into senior tennis while most importantly having fun. The 55 students from the Jabiru campus who participated in the program would agree that it didn’t just help them improve their skills but was a whole lot of fun. The ability of several of the participants was commented on by the coaches so hopefully they will continue to be part of tennis for a long time and who knows we may have a potential champion right here in Jabiru.
Jamie is the new regional coordinator for Hot Shots so hopefully he will be back several more times this year to build on the great start that was made on this trip.
The opportunity for Jabiru residents in particular the kids and youth of Jabiru to get this valuable chance to enjoy tennis and learn some new skills was made possible by the following supporters:
• ERA provided funding for the exercise to be run and have been long term supporters of the Jabiru Tennis program
• The Gagudju Dreaming Crocodile Hotel provided accommodation for the coaches which they have also done for previous programs
• Tennis NT and the Hot Shots program
• Pat Coburn and DTC sports located on Bagot Road in Darwin
• Staff of the Jabiru Campus of West Arnhem College
Thanks also to Emily O’Hara, Ian Douglass and Aaron Winderlich who help with coaching and organising at the weekly Wednesday sessions.
