Round 4. Bombers vs Pints
Minimize

Jabiru Bombers hold out fast finishing Pints

The Jabiru Bombers played their 4th round game at home against Pints on Saturday
30 October. This was the 1st game that the bombers have played against a top four
side and the game certainly lived up to a top four clash.

Jabiru went into the 1st quarter with only four players on the bench and a few unfit
players, Skip had to play with a quad muscle tear and Richie Lindner was not
available until quarter time. Youngsters Travis Vigona, Houston Managku and Daniel
Kuskey lined up for their 1st game in a Bombers guernsey.

In the 1st quarter, Jabiru soon realised they were up against a confident Pints side
led by ex-Waratahs legend Wayne Worden. The tackling was very good from the
opposition and a few players found themselves caught with the ball. It was a neck
and neck struggle with the Bombers having a slight lead by quarter time at 3.2.20 to
Pints 2.2.14.
The 2nd quarter was the Bombers worst for the year, with Pints piling on 5 goals
straight to Jabiru’s miserly 2.2.14 (it pays to kick straight guys). Richard Lindner
arrived in time for the 2nd quarter and if it wasn’t for his assistance the Bombers may
have been further behind at the halfway mark for the first time in 4 games.
At the half way mark Pint s led by 10 points 7.2.44 to Jabiru 5.4.34

The 3rd quarter was a potential match winner with the Bombers kicking 6.3 to Pints
a solitary behind. Important goals to James Marrday, Nathan Perrin and two to Skip
Fairman saw a huge turnaround in the game that literally stunned Pints.
The onballers worked much harder at getting the ball out of the middle with ruckman
Grant Hancock getting the ball down to the hungry onballers Tyson Toner, Richie
Lindner and Travis Vigona. James Marrday had a great 3rd quarter to compliment
a well rounded game. Solid work from half back flank Kadeem May together with
Mickitja Onus at full back and Matty Large at centre half back and the three quarter
time scores showed Jabiru leading 11.7.73 to Pints 7.3.45

The last quarter began with Jabiru holding a 28 point buffer and looking certain
winners, but Pints came out firing with 2 quick goals with Wayne Worden hanging
back at the centre bounces winning the ball and continually driving the ball into the
Pints forward line. A third goal and Pints were starting to sniff victory.

The Bombers got the ball into the forward line a couple of times for 3 behinds but
could not kick that major to seal the game. Houston Managku had a ripper last
quarter playing off the wing and had a chance to kick the winning goal, but his kick
faded at the last minute and sailed through for a point.
Pints kicked a fourth goal and with 6 minutes to go and Jabiru holding a slender 3
point lead, the game could still go either way.
Some of the older Jabiru Bombers heads tried slowing the game down in the dying
stages and there was some of the old kick to kick time wasting required to run the
clock down. The siren sounded with both teams out on their feet, and the mighty
Jabiru Bombers despite some injuries to key personnel, hanging on by the skin of
their teeth for a well deserved 3 point victory.

The final score was Jabiru Bombers 11.8.74 to Pints 11.5.71

The Mug & Dinner voucher valued at $100 from the Croc Hotel for best on the
ground went to Grant Hancock, 2nd best with a $50 voucher went to Richard Lindner,
and 3rd best was Kadeem May who received a $30 Foodland voucher.

Best Players: Grant Hancock, Richard Lindner, Kadeem May, Tyson Toner, James
Marrday, Travis Vigona.
Goal kickers: Darren Fairman 3, Desmond Stacey 2, James Marrday 2, Nathan
Perrin 2, Grant Hancock 1, Richard Lindner 1.

It was also another great sponsor’s day with the Jabiru Bombers acknowledging the
support of major sponsor the Jabiru Sports & Social Club.

This week the Bombers are away at TIO Stadium oval number 2 in Darwin against
Tracy Village on Sat 6th November with the game starting at 3.30pm.

Jabiru Bombers match report round 3 versus Waratahs

By Darren ‘Skip’ Fairman

The Jabiru Bombers played their 3rd round game at home against a depleted
Waratahs on Sat 23rd October. To Waratahs credit they agreed to come out with
their 13 available players & Jabiru would help out with 6 players. We actually were
able to give them 7 players so they had 2 on the bench. So a big thank you to James
Marrday, Houston Managku, Daniel Kuskey, Sam Godden, Scotty Miller, Byron
Cooper, Travis Vigona, without your assistance there would have been a walkover.

The 1st quarter Jabiru was quick out of the blocks scoring 4.2.26 to Waratahs 1.1.7
with Jordan Alderson playing his 1st game for a while kicking the 1st one & showing
a lot of dash in the forward pocket, Dougie was presenting well at Full forward
as well as Scott Gurruwiwi. Grant Hancock was winning the ruck & providing 1st
option to Brad Copeland Richie Lindner & Tyson Toner, & new boy Lee “killa” Rose
was presenting well at half forward. The back line was holding firm restricting the
opposition with Ashton Liddy, Kadeem May & Mickitja Onus standing tall & close
checking by Mark Ellis in the back pocket. The 2nd quarter was a very poor one
for the Bombers where Waratahs scored 3.1.19 to the Bombers 1.2.8, as it was
Desmond Stacey’s mark & goal on the half time siren was the only goal for the
quarter, which allowed the Bombers a slender 8 point break at half time. Coach Skip
Fairman asked once again to lift in the all important 3rd Quarter & with some firm
words by the Skipper Mickitja Onus the Bombers responded with 5.5.35 to 1.1.7
to have the scores at 10.9.69 to 5.3.33 at the last change. The Bombers finished
strongly kicking an inaccurate 4.6.30 in the last quarter to 2.2.14 to win comfortably
by 52 points to make it 3 wins from 3 starts & maintain top position.
There were certainly some chinks exposed in the Bombers armour, a poor 2nd
quarter followed by some patches of good footy by the opposition. The backs once
again kept the opposition to a low score of 7.5.47, Desmond Stacey stood tall at
Centre Half Forward kicking 4 goals & provided plenty of marking & dash, Brad
Copeland racked up plenty of possessions all around the ground, Ian Douglass
stood tall & presented well at Full Forward with 2 goals, Richard Lindner got plenty
of the ball & ran all day through the centre & Grant Hancock continued with his high
leaps in the ruck, & kept mobile around the ground racking up a couple of strong
marks & scoring 2 good goals. Ashton Liddy had another solid game at half back
along with Kadeem May. Both of those lads were running off their opposition players
& giving us plenty of drive through the midfield up to the forward line. Bombers
player James Marrday had a good game with Waratahs along with Travis Vigona.

The final score was Jabiru Bombers 14.15.99 to Waratahs 7.5.47
The Mug & Dinner voucher from the Croc Hotel for best on the ground went to
Desmond Stacey, 2nd best went to Brad Copeland which was a $50 voucher &
3rd best was a tie to Richie Lindner & Grant Hancock who each received a $30
Foodland voucher.

Best Players: Desmond Stacey, Brad Copeland, Grant Hancock, Richard Lindner,
Ashton Liddy, Kadeem May.
Goal kickers: Desmond Stacey 4, Grant Hancock 2, Ian Douglass 2, Scott
Gurruwiwi 2, Jordan Alderson 2, Tyson Toner 1, Matty Large 1,

It was a great sponsor’s day with acknowledging the great work supplied by both
Kakadu Contracting & Allan Kings & son for the clubhouse extensions & also the
unveiling of the new Lindner stand which of course was named after the Lindner/
Corrie family’s dedication to the Jabiru football club. They are a more than worthy
choice.

This week the Bombers are at home again to Pints on Sat 30th Oct game starts at
2pm.

Round 2 Match Report Jabiru Bombers v Casino Sharks

The Jabiru Bombers played their 2nd round game at Gardens oval 2 against Casino
sharks on Sun 17th October & went into the game with 3 people pulling on Sunday
morning. Coach Skip Fairman had to quickly do some reshuffling & pulled the boots
on himself as well Gunbalanya mentor Dave Russell, & past TEAFA Medallist &
Bomber premiership player Solomon Cooper also helped out.
The inclusion of Cyril Rioli for his 1st game of the season was a big plus for the
Bombers side. The Bombers were quick out of the blocks again in the 1st quarter but
posted an inaccurate 3.8.26 to 0.1.1.
The centre players were winning the footy out of the middle & getting it down to Skip
at Centre Half Forward replacing Nathan Perrin in the selected side & Matty Large at
full forward.
Ruckman Grant Hancock arrived in the nick of time for the start of the 2nd quarter
after getting the start time mixed up. Chippy did well in the ruck for us in the 1st
quarter in Grant’s absence. The 2nd quarter was quite scrappy & Casino found their
radar at the scoring end kicking 3.0 straight to the bombers 3.4.
Again at half time the Bombers inaccuracy was showing at 6.12.48 to Casinos
3.1.19.
Coach Skip Fairman asked the lads to lift in the all important 3rd quarter & post the
majors instead of the one pointers & the Bombers responded with a very solid 3rd
quarter of 6.4 to 1.0 to put the game beyond doubt at 12.16.78 to 4.1.25.
Kadeem May was again repelling everything at half back and created opportunities
with his runs through the middle, with Richie Lindner kicking a goal, Desmond
Stacey 2 goals, Cyril Rioli 1 goal & Brad Copeland all having their bursts through
the middle & giving the forward line 1st opportunities. Rick Candy was running his
man ragged on the wing in a very good display, Ashton Liddy showed a lot of dash
on the half bank flank & never let his man get to the ball & Mickitja Onus was the
general of the troops at Full back. Up forward Glenn Strybosch played a very good
game leading & presenting very well kicking 2 goals, & Skip Fairman chimed in with
5 goals at Centre Half Forward.
The Bombers kicked on in the last quarter to post 5.2 to 1.1 to finish easy winners
against a gutsy Casino Sharks.
