When players from Jabiru take the field on Sat Oct 9 for the start of the 2010/2011 season they will no longer be playing in the TEAFA competition in which they have done so well for many seasons but as part of the new competition created by a merger of the previous TEAFA and NTFL leagues.
The new NTFL league consists of
• The premier league – the old NTFL division one competition
• Division 1 a combination of previous NTFL reserves & TEAFA A grade
• Division 2 is made up primarily of the TEAFA B grade teams including Jabiru with the addition of teams from Waratah and Combined Services
What this expanded competition means for Jabiru will unfold during the season. However if Jabiru is to remain one of this competition’s powerhouses there is one thing for sure the skill of Jabiru players will need to be matched more than ever by support from the community, sponsors, committee and other support staff. It will also need an increased dedication to training and fitness by the players.
What can you do?
• The community – come to matches support your team and maybe consider a role on the committee or helping the team on game day.
• Employers – encourage and support any involvement by your staff, particularly players.
• Players – the more the merrier come down and participate.
• Sponsors – when you get the letter think about supporting the team.
• Coaching staff – no coaches no team – anyone who can help in any capacity we would love to hear from you.
• Committee members – the clubs AGM will be on the 19 August. All positions are declared vacant. A strong and active committee is critical to a clubs success so please consider nominating.
Dates to remember:
• Light training Tuesdays and Thursdays from August 10th 5pm at Brockman Oval
• Bombers AGM 19 August
• Full training every Tuesday and Thursday at Brockman Oval commencing Tuesday September 7
• Traditional Over 30’s under 30’s game Friday 17 September
• First game at Brockman Oval Saturday October 9
Reflecting on Season 2009 - 2010
2009 – 2010 was not one of the Bombers most memorable seasons. After making the past 5 grand finals, and winning two, the team missed the finals for the first time in years. While no team can expect to remain at the top indefinitely with at least 12 of the players missing from the previous year’s premiership team it was always going to be a battle to repeat premiership glory this year.
The season still had many highlights. With so many premiership players missing younger and less experienced players had increased opportunities and will be better players from the experience.
Jabiru always seems to have players with a lot of natural talent BUT to return to the top of the table where the team belongs will need the application and effort at training to match the talent. The core team of leaders and coaches such as Matt Large, Gary Lindner, Mikitja Onus, Andrew Wellings and Ian Douglass will be doing their bit as usual but their efforts have to be matched by the players.
While the team may not have enjoyed the success it wanted this year the fact that it has enjoyed a very successful era and continues to be competitive is due in no small part to its supporters, its sponsors and its dedicated behind the scenes team.
Thanks to all supporters we hope to have you behind the team again next season.
Thanks to all sponsors without you we could not field a team. The sponsors this year were: Ian Marrit, Jabiru Sports and Social Club (JSSC), Energy Resources Australia (ERA), Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation (GAC), Blueridge Engineering, Top End Pest Control, Djabulugku Association, ESS NAAD, Mobil Jabiru, Jabiru Foodland, and Kakadu Culture Camp. Thank you to all these sponsors and the Bombers hope that the Jabiru community will get behind all these individuals and organizations in recognition of their contribution to sport and recreation in Jabiru.
Thank you to those putting in the effort behind the scenes. These include committee members and people who help doing things like running the canteen, goal umpiring, running water and messages on game day, organising team sheets and washing jumpers. These people in no particular order include: Kia Hodgsen, Karlee Rotumah, Kylie Lindner, Bec Lindner, Gary Lindner, Richie Lindner, David Lindner, Dot Corrie, Mat Large, Michael (Red Card Chippy) Chipchase, Glen (Meatloaf) Strybosch, Ian (the claw) Douglass, Steve Winderlich, Anne O’Dea, Aaron Winderlich, Andy Stavros, and Jake Bonner. Apologies to anyone who has been missed but rest assured your efforts were much appreciated.
Several Key Events need acknowledging:

So that’s it for 2009/2010 and bring on 2010/2011. With the support of the Jabiru community there is no reason why the Bombers can’t be the first premiers of the new competition.
